Horrifying and Hilarious Weeping City

I MUST write about this because even Walter said after we won “I don’t know how we survived.” And yes it was weird!!!

Last night I went to Alliance Raid roulette with FC friends on Tonberry and we got Weeping City of Mhach. No, the Mhach didn’t weep. I did. And I bet my co-healer, a stranger SCH, also wept as much as I did. The start didn’t bode well. The tank seemed inexperience, and the whole party B seemed to struggle a lot.

First boss, the Arachne was….fine. We got by quite smoothly despite the fact that someone placed the web (safe spot) in the middle, and there were no less than 3 people who stayed on it and got squashed when the boss emerged from the sand vortex. I’m a bad person, so I snorted a laugh.

At Forgall, however, the errors were more fatal. See, Walter discussed with us and we agreed that we might wipe here. But the party B and the B tank never communicated with the alliance, and so we didn’t want to be rude and say “Let C tank for you.” Something weird about the Japanese Datacenter, I guess. I have hardly ever seen them communicating between parties in alliance raid. They usually keep talking to their own parties.

There was only once in my whole playtime on Tonberry that I saw someone from party B saying they’re new and need help tanking (and Mary assumed the position, reluctantly LOL). And that was after a very bad wipe, or two, I can’t really remember how bad we had it that time. So yeah, they’re drama-free. No angry messages between parties, but also no strategic planning.

Anyway, in Forgall last night, party B either 1) didn’t stun Beguiling Mist from the Summoned Succubus or 2) had been spamming Stun to the point of resist. So the Seduce fest was triggered. Haha!

Pic 1 : Before the epic death. I am not sure how and why the SCH, one of the bards, and I didn’t get charmed/seduced. Could be just lucky evade, or we were out of range (very less likely), or we were standing on the red holes and had bleeding that could prevent Seduce?

Pic 2 : I checked the battle chatlog and found that this was a cruel combo that was meant to wipe everyone.

  • Beguiling Mist (Succubus, B add) – raid-wide AoE that seduce everyone. Seduced people will walk to Succubus.
  • Rotten Breath (Dahak, A add) – close proximate (?) AoE poison breath. About 5000 – 10000 HP DMG, and Poison DoT.
  • Void Fire IV (Succubus) – ground AoE at Succubus’s position, where Seduced people walked to… About 3000 – 5000 HP DMG, and Burn DoT.
  • Voidblood (Haagenti, which was C add) – About 2000 HP DMG and perhaps also Poison?
  • Rotten Breath AGAIN (WTF, asshole!) Same deal.
  • And if you’re still alive, Haagenti uses Mortal Ray to try to get Doom on you, if you stare, you’re as good as dead.

3 of us didn’t even get Seduced, so we didn’t walk in, and didn’t get Void Fire IV, nor Voidblood, nor Rotten Breath, and survived. Walter got charmed, walked in, and walked out alive as well. Bravo to the SCH!

I used to wipe twice, back to back, on Ragnarok (Chaos Datacenter) because the party with Succubus didn’t stun it both times. It seemed like instant wipe to me, because everyone died in one hit. This is new. And my gear wasn’t that high. I was on AST 64. It was either the Bleeding (from standing on the red fiery hole) saved the few of us, or we just got a lucky evade.

Pic 3 : From there, with 8 survivors (2 in A, 2 in B, and 4 in C) we tried to recover. We raised and raised. People died, and died, because not enough heal power to keep the weakened alive…

We managed to win, eventually.

Hurray!!!!

The battle chatlog during the wipe has 13 pages, in case anyone is interested in reading for a case study, or just for fun.

And that’s it. Was tough, tiring, and funny. I won’t talk about Ozma because I am angry lol, especially in Atomos room. Last boss was a little mess, too, but we didn’t wipe. Meh. Although I’m not quite ranting, I will still put this in “My Rant” category because it was a catastrophic alliance raid. XD

Sub-par tank with big attitude

Expert roulette today was full of drama, again. Frankly, that is why I tried to avoid DF solo and only go when I have at least one friend with me. Today, though, I was with Corn and Bray, and we went in as a party of three, then were matched with a stranger who was a DRK.

ffxiv_10262016_095157_new_r

Right off the bat, without any heads up, he or she stood there for like a minute, seeming AFK. We went ahead and pulled a group of 3 enemies, having Corn’s Titan-Egi tank. The tank came back a bit later, when enemies were almost dead. Tank said sorry and helped us kill 2 out of 3 enemies, and ran off to grab next group before last one died.

Bray said “go big” so the tank kept going…..up the stairs where it was a dead end. We fought there and proceeded to next set of mobs. Tank pulled all the way to the monkeys’ room. I had difficult time keeping up with the cure. This tank was strangely squishy. I wasn’t sure if DRKs are squishy by nature, or if this person had bad gear, or if this person had bad skill rotation. I couldn’t Cleric Stance properly. I had healed DRKs before. I felt DRK is quite hard to heal and I’m more accustomed to healing a PLD. And in level 60 content (non-sync) I can also heal a WAR alright. But DRK is another story. However, this DRK seemed a little bit squishier that others. So, I selected to focus on healing instead.

Boss room was ok. I couldn’t DPS and tank didn’t 100% dodge the Folio AoE, but that’s fine. Everything was manageable.

This DRK kept quietly going AFK (or at least seemed AFK) every once in a while, without notification, too. So we crept forward slowly using Titan-Egi tank, which complicated things because when the tank arrived late at the scene, it was harder to secure enmity. I almost got mowed to death a few times due to my Medica II pulling hate from Titan-Egi.

Then, in Liquid Flame boss, I made a bad decision and spent Benediction on Bray when he was dying. Bye-bye my cool down. Ugh!

Next mob after flame boss was in a room where vision is blocked by a narrow door. Corn wandered too far into the room and was seen. (I did this twice, because I forgot and didn’t see the enemies visually.) So we started fighting.

The tank (back from being idle) ran in, said “Ffs” and grabbed all the 3 enemies, and headed further up the stairs. I used Sprint to follow. We reached the next room, where there are many statues. Inside the room, near the entrance there are 3 more enemies. Once tank reached the enemies, Corn placed Shadow Flare there. I spent my Divine Seal and used Medica II. But lo and behold, the tank didn’t stop there, he or she continued to the end of the room, missing Medica II and waking up first set of statues, which spawned 2 3 more enemies. That’s 8 (I was wrong, it was actually 9 enemies) in the fray.

I followed immediately and Swiftcast, reapplied my Medica II to help with tank’s HP. I also landed Tetragrammaton on the tank for 7888 HP and placed Asylum. Meanwhile, one or two loose enemies whacked on me because of my too-early Medica II. (I usually let tank secure enmity first, but this tank had me panicked because he or she ran off for more enemies when I wasn’t expecting it, and tank’s HP gushed like water.)

Tank used Convalescence but from that point on, I could only land 1 Cure. I tried to Cure II, as Benediction and Tetra were both on cooldown. We all dodged a bunch of cluttered AoE and either I was hit or my Cure II was interrupted by damage, and in a blink, tank died.

I was shredded into pieces right after. And then Corn, and then Bray.

Tank was like “Great” then said “Can pull cant heal.”

Um? I didn’t pull. And wait, you were the one who decided to take a bigger bite than you can chew, no? We wanted to stop at the front of the room. You dragged the mobs all the way to the back of the room. YOU.

And where’s the oh-shit emergency skill, Living Dead, that could have extended your death for at least 10 seconds?  And not all enemies were on you, yet you still died. =_=;; That means your tanking skill, in combination with my healing skill, cannot withstand that many enemies.

I was so miffed and replied “Where’s your Living Dead? :P”

Corn got pissed off, too, and called the DRK out on those mysterious AFKs. The DRK said “I was trying to type”  (I thought to myself, type what? You’re not supposed to type while engaged in battle.) On my second thought, though, maybe the DRK meant he or she was trying to type to tell the party that he or she needed to go AFK. But….how long does a person need just to type “Wait” or “BRB” or “AFK” or “sec” or to type wa [and tab, for auto-translation of “Wait, please.”]. After 3-letter notification to make the party listen, one can have plenty of time to explain the situation or the need to AFK or to pause the pull.

Anyway, after everyone went to HP and ran back again, the DRK darted forward without waiting for Protect (probably was too pissed off to care). So I had to cast Protect on them again, at the same time the DRK aggroed first group of enemies, and my Protect stole enmity right off the bat. DRK didn’t even care and kept running forward for the 2nd group. I had to Sprint to catch up and heal, etc.

Unhappy.

While we were fighting through the room full of statues that gradually spawned enemies, the argument went on and on. The tank was angry that Corn pulled. (Honestly, I would, too. I always hate DPS that pulls before tank.) Corn was pissed that the tank kept going AFK unannounced. (In this case I regrettably sided with Corn, because going AFK unannounced is very rude, IMO. And to top it off, the tank was so squishy and died from pulling too many mobs without consulting the party, and then immediately blamed me, I was infuriated.)

ffxiv_10262016_094508_new_r

I also had to use Benediction there (like, what the!?! I only used Benediction there on Dew when and if we pull 8 enemies at once.) The tank seemed so occupied in exchanging angry messages with Corn and didn’t focus on tanking AT ALL. It was even worse than before. Tank was always on the verge of dying, even when I fully focused on healing and switched to bombing Cure II instead of Cure as usual.

I finally snapped and said “You’re squishy enough when not typing, please focus.” Which is very mean, I know. But I just really can’t tolerate that attitude. A sub-par tank who’s not trying to do the job properly, but focusing more on typing an argument…

ffxiv_10262016_094524_new_r

After that, 4 enemies spawned, and the tank seemed to be mad at my remark, and seemed to intentionally neglect to take back the aggro. I tanked 2 of them the whole time until they died. I spent Tetra on myself. I cure bombed myself. I refused to die. Meanwhile Corn threatened to vote kick the tank, to which the tank replied “Kick me u crybby” and “Like i care” so after the mobs died, we voted kick the tank.

Good riddance.

There was just one enemy on the way to last boss room, if I remember correctly. We got past that just fine and got to the boss room. Corn waited for a bit, but no tank came in. I was unwilling to wake Dew up, so I just stood there, trying to not get mad at what happened. =_= As you can see, apparently, I failed to stay not mad.

Corn eventually decided to tank with Titan-Egi.

ffxiv_10262016_095356_new_r

And of course, we won without casualty.

Titan-Egi, tanking a boss better than a real person Dark Knight. =_=;; WTF.

ffxiv_10262016_095745_new_r

Corn is barbaric when he’s on SMN

Lately, Corn had shifted to playing SMN instead of PLD. I guess he got tired of tanking and found a new fun in the DEEPS zone. He seems chirpy and energetic when he shredded the horde of enemies into pieces with his magick. Nowadays he goes to roulettes with us on his SMN about 98% of the time.

Today, too, he was on SMN. And we were about to do some unsync runs for the kitten’s sticker book (Wondrous Tails) but I was distracted by the new teaser trailer, drooling at the monks sparring. I changed to Monk to admire my new gearset, which Corn and I and Diver crafted yesterday. Then there was a kaching and I realized Corn entered CoB T1 while I was on my monk. XD

I was like “Oh shit, I’m on monk.” But Corn said “I know.”

So, yeah we went on and killed the trash mobs. Corn died at the last mass pull before I could kill the damn Golem. I finished off the few mobs that were still alive, and we tacked the epic Snake.

Long story short, after letting Corn tank one half of the snake while Titan-Egi tanked the first half, Corn died and Titan went poof! So both halves of the snake came after me, and merged. I tried to put up the fight best I could, but I died. Corn went homepoint after he died so he didn’t see my epicness. As, after I died for about a second, the snake also died. We double-KO. lol

ffxiv_10152016_111059_newresize2

ffxiv_10152016_111533_new

I swear I didn’t remember using Blood for Blood. I never used Blood For Blood while straight-tanking anything. So I guess it was either I used it when Titan was still alive, or I accidentally smashed the button while in frenzy. I would have been so bummed out if we didn’t win. So that DoT was a nice save!!!

T9 meteor positioning diagram

My friends on Tonberry (The Catketeers) needed help on SCoB turn 4 or T9 (Nael deus Darnus), so I made an easy diagram to assist them. After a few tries, we figured out that we could not use the same positioning as my Ragnarok FC (En Taro Adun, or 4Aiur) used, so they adapted until they found a comfortable solution. I then made it into a picture to help other friends who were absent understand the plan easier.

4Aiur used this when we passed with undersized party. Then, when time came for the Caketeers to tackle this battle, I initially drew this (in Paint, ugh!!) for the kitties before we developed a new plan.

T9_Diagram_Comets2

But when the party has more people, like, let’s say 6, it becomes a bit complicated and confusing for the Catketeers to reposition for 2nd meteor without colliding with someone else. So the kitties suggested this formation instead:

T9_Diagram_meteors

I also added some important info in the diagram for easy memorizing.

The explosion radius that WILL ignite the meteor and kills everyone (except the tank(s)) looks like this when in battle:

14195432_10153799554021127_7020810618535135815_o

In the screenshot above, I was standing between 2 meteors. That spot is just outside of the danger radius, if you put the meteor close enough to the edge of the room to allow more distance.

T9_Meteor_Placement_good_resize

When well-placed, the meteors won’t explode. The above pic shows an example of good placements.

Leviathan Ponies Farming

ffxiv_07182016_050741

ffxiv_07182016_051359

Alright, last night our FC went to farm a few ponies using undersized (unsync) party. What we lack most is Leviathan’s horse. 3 people including me still need it. So, at one point, we spammed Leviathan EX. We didn’t wipe. Just half wiped or almost wiped, which is a good thing, because it shows that we learned the rhythm of Levi EX battle and have improved in executing plans. Corn was on commander duty, reminding us when to stop DPSing and such, and also he was the switch person for the barrier.

ffxiv_07182016_051327

ffxiv_07182016_051407

During one fight, I died alone because I didn’t look at where Levi would slam down and when I realized it and sprinted, I was 1 step short from not falling off. XD The party won, however.

The next fight, Dew later said it was karma, I had to work harder than the others to make up for the previous fight. At one point, while people were towing the water orbs, something happened and suddenly 3 people died. I didn’t even know what was going on. Only Dew (PLD), Kuji (DRG) and I (WHM) were left. We waited for the machine’s energy, and Kuji managed to hit the switch on time. We survived and I thought it was going to be ok.

ffxiv_07182016_052027

Nope, the damn add cursed Dew with Hysteria and Kuji accidentally stepped on a terror circle while dodging shit, so they both walked off the edge and went swimming with the rest of the party. At 10%, I was alone and scared as hell. There were 2 terror circles on the floor when Levi next slammed on the raft. I slid, and very luckily missed the circle by inches. Party screamed a lot of stuff. Dew was so hyped and was squeaking her excitement in our Skype call.

ffxiv_07182016_052029

ffxiv_07182016_052059 ffxiv_07182016_052121 ffxiv_07182016_052153

Nervous and panicked, I still remembered to Asylum, Divine Seal Medica II, and Regen myself while dodging stuff and attacking Levi’s head. I deactivated Cleric Stance to use Tetragammatron when needed, then went on the nuking spree again. Then while spamming Stone III, I spent my Benediction. Levi hits hard, the Scale Darts were like 2300 HP dmg each. Eventually, while ignoring the adds out of sheer fear and excitement, I felled Leviathan.

ffxiv_07182016_052157

It wouldn’t have been a big deal for undersized party to win against it, but it was a HUGE deal for me when I had to solo. I was particularly scared because I don’t perform well in Leviathan EX. I used to always die first because I couldn’t dodge the dive and the slam. When I won, while the party was screaming their joy in the FC chat, I was trembling, LOL. The same old excitement and rush of adrenaline I haven’t felt in quite some time came back again, and I felt as if I were on crack. XD

Goodbye Bahamut!!!

Goodbyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bahamuttttttttttttt!!!!!

OMG I’m freaking out!!! We finally downed Bahamut, CoB T13 (Final Coil of Bahamut, Turn 4).

Today we gathered again and tackled T13 once more. Corn needed a minute, so I took that opportunity to take some group pics. XD Sorry, Kuji, first pic has you with very evil face HAHAHA.

ffxiv_05222016_225613_new

Must love /gpose new feature that allows party to stop looking at the camera. :D

ffxiv_05222016_225626_new

During the fight, I was derping really badly, even managed to die TWICE, and only remembered to take 3 pics.

It’s really nice to beat Coil of Bahamut with close friends. :D (We always go in as small group, partly because I fear drama. I heard about drama and endless drama involving endgame raid and I’m scared. The fight is very intense, and everyone could be on the verge of flipping shit. So I guess we kind of never wanted to struggle with recruiting more raid members ><;; You know, even with this tight-knitted, laid-back and light-hearted team, we yelled at each other or got pouty on occasions during Coil runs. We prevailed while managing to preserve good relationship only because we’re very close, whereas I don’t have the same confidence for loyalty and forgiveness from other people as I have with these guys. We’re also casual players and other average raid players won’t like us or our messy/random schedule, hahaha!)

Phoenix, Down. One more to go.

We beat T12.

Yesterday we went back to face the Phoenix once again, unexpectedly. Well, Corn and Kuji might have expected it, but I thought we weren’t going, as Dew had to leave her house very early to take her mom to a doctor appointment, and PZ told me he wasn’t feeling well (so I shooed him to bed, before Corn logged in).

We ended up going anyway, at first Corn just wanted to go in as 4 people to try the “hot potato” strategy. We learned so much and we did much better after he explained some of the mechanics. It felt much easier when we knew (or at least were aware of) what to do.

Then, someone said wahhhh could have passed with 1 more person in the party. And Dew spotted PZ on FB and told me, so I asked him to come. We spent so much time melding up people (Corn had his lunch and melded for Dew at the same time lol) and eventually entered.
ffxiv_05162016_003416_new

We wiped a lot and refined our strategies after each wipe. I was so excited to see so much improvement in a short period of time.

ffxiv_05162016_005142_new

Below was the last battle pic I took on our successful attempt. I was too busy panicking healing people and passing the hot potato (Purgatory debuffs) and trying to stand in the Fountain, etc., and didn’t have enough brain to take more pics as Phoenix was dying. XD

ffxiv_05162016_011748_new

And finally, the Phoenix was down.

Off we go, to the last stage, the evil Bahamut awaits. Long story short, we didn’t win and disbanded a little before 4 a.m. Thailand time. LOL. We will try again later. We learned a lot already. :D

Beat T11

Today we tried T11 again, with 5 people, as usual. After countless wipes during the 48 minutes of pain and agony (LOL) and screaming into Dew’s ear through Skype voice call (making her panic a lot, sorry, Dew!) we finally fell the Mechanical Hydra beast.

Deadaga XD Wiping so many times it got a little bit frustrating and discouraging. But we did see the potential, and kept practicing. Corn was our strategy man, and both PZ and Dew contributed by recalling, through dying over and over, some gimmicks that were originally forgotten and telling us what to do.

ffxiv_05142016_232305_new

Below were the pics from our successful attempt. It was frustrating to solo heal because everyone were like dying left and right and in the midst of the chaos, I could hardly maintain my composure and cool head. I feel bad for Dew because I was yelling into the voice call when I panicked or got mad XD but Dew said it’s ok, we’re even, because she yelled at me when PZ and Kuji were killing her add too fast, too. Haha. She was like, please type for me, “go help Corn.” And I was like “NO NO NO NO Why is PZ dying” and “WTF my heal can’t reach!” and couldn’t type for her. XD And she was like “DON’T ATTACK MY ADD OHMIGOD” “NO!” in the voice call because she couldn’t type very well while fighting. Poor thing lol.

ffxiv_05142016_234224_newffxiv_05142016_234254_new

ffxiv_05142016_235455_new

T9, T10 and (attempt) T11

Again, we (finally)  managed to scrape together 5 bodies to attempt T9 (Second Coil of Bahamut, turn 4) last night. This time PZ logged in and joined us (yay!) so we had more targets for the fire & ice. No more getting 2nd ice in my face before the aiming fire could land!!!! XD LOL!

ffxiv_05092016_003322_new

T9 alone took 3 hours, including dinner break/snack break/bathroom break.

Last session (about a week ago, or maybe it was 2 weeks ago) we knew we improved. Even though PZ wasn’t with us, we nailed the Comet phase and got to the 2nd part about 90% of the time. The Fire & Ice thing was what we had BIG problem with. But last night, with Corn’s plan of having everyone huddling together except Fire-debuffed person, we flew through it quite smoothly. I even developed a skill in reading my own debuff precisely and managed to avoid zapping the party with my Thunder shots. This time, though, the Divebombs are once again my woe, up until we won.

To be honest, I ran around like a headless chicken when it’s Divebombs phase. Amid the havoc and my panic, I had completely no idea where the north is, not to even mention remembering where to place bomb or hide from bomb (4-11 o’clock, 7-2 o’clock, 2-7 o’clock). Also, I think I kept killing Corn with Lunar Dynamo that was aimed on me.

ffxiv_05092016_021927_new

In this pic (above), I didn’t even remember what all happened…. But 3 people were dead and I entered panic mode.

From examining the chatlog: PZ died (twice), then Corn also died (from my Lunar Dynamo, I think) then Dew died.

The battle was so intense and I couldn’t stop cackling when we won!

And we were rewarded with some epic and super epic cutscenes.

Then, onto the first turn of Final Coil, T10.

ffxiv_05092016_032004_new ffxiv_05092016_033840_new

We got eaten badly from the adds, so we had to exit and have Corn change back to PLD.

ffxiv_05092016_035043_new

After a few wipes, we managed to win, with me dead on the floor, screaming internally “KILL IT! Just 1% left!!!!! We can’t fail!!!”

And woop! We won.

Then, onto T11. Which we haven’t beaten yet.

This thing is very difficult, and the best we could do was 44%. Then, it was almost 4 a.m. and PZ had to sleep because he has work on Monday.

T2-T7 Cleared for Chibidew

Last night we had quite an adventure. Chibidew got to the point where she can tackle CoB and SCoB (her goal is to co-tank with Corn against NVD, LOL). Coincidentally,  yesterday Corn got some new recipe from some Masterbook IV, and wanted to know where the Allagan Aetherstones drop. We decided to go to CoB to see if they really drop from there, and to see the drop rate.

Since Chibidew already cleared T1 with us long ago, we went to T4 (because it’s short) and T2 just to also get the completion. We asked PZ and he was interested, and logged in to join us. Therefore, with Kuji, we had 5 people. T4 and T2 were very easy and I thought we would try those again to see the drop rate and to farm what already dropped, but Corn suggested that since we had 5 people, we might as well tackle T5. Of course, all agreed.

However, since I suck (VERY BADLY) and kept dying to Dive Bombs, Corn had to change to his other job, SMN, to ensure there is a second raise for oh-shit situations. And then, Kuji had to go AFK for dinner, so we had 4 people.

ffxiv_03072016_022552_new

After so many tries, mostly wiping to Deathknights + Twister, we finally…..downed Twintania.

ffxiv_03072016_023237_new

Kuji came back while we were killing first set of adds on our last attempt, but we stayed in hope of getting more practice before leaving the duty to pick him up. Turned out to miraculously won in that attempt!

Then PZ had to go to sleep, as it was 3 a.m. We still went on with SCoB though… Killing T6 (wiped twice before figuring we better ignore the slimes).
ffxiv_03072016_033345_new2

Then, we continued to T7. XD We wiped so many times I felt that it was impossible and that we should wait for PZ and do it again next week. Nope. There seems to be no “impossible” in Corn’s dictionary. He again changed to SMN to help deal with the adds, since our main problem was the adds which swarmed me or him and was killing everyone.

We also, for the first time for us, figured out (through intensive googling) that we must stand outside of the “hitbox” of the petrified Renaud (Ogre add, is it an ogre? LOL I don’t know the enemy type) to make it count, otherwise the system considers it to not block the ray.

Finally,with enormous difficulty, we won.

ffxiv_03072016_044953_new2

:D It was soooooooooo exhausting but also a shit load of fun. Personally, though this is both tiring and time-consuming, I would not hesitate to do this again with my FC folks. It provided challenges and also an opportunity to put our capability under stress test. I also feel it helps tighten the bond between us. It’s so refreshing to have FC activities, because lately it’s rare we do anything together in the FC as a group of more than 3, due to the extensive list of daily things that everyone has to complete and the limited playtime of those who have a full-time job, and the time zone differences. ><;;

And here’s s group pic in the workshop while we made some progress to the Airship part, after T7 ended. Missing PZ, though. :'(
