Monsters Location Maps: Rank B Clan Hunt

Link to my Google Drive folder of Monsters Location Maps: http://goo.gl/iPEYox

I made these maps because I am terrible at spotting places using the coordination, I would have to fumble about for a long time, trying to hover my mouse everywhere on the map to find the correct pos. By marking the pos onto a visual map, it helps me a lot when I need to scout for these Clan Hunts. The maps were originally intended for my personal use, but then it became useful to a few friends, then to a few strangers in the game. Eventually one of them said I should post this on the internet. So here goes…

Note: I’m not going to come back to edit the .jpg pics I post here. However, the Google Drive link will be updated as soon as I notice any unlisted spawn spot or confirm anything new.

Monsters Location Maps: The Sea of Clouds

Made my 4th map for the Monsters Location.

Again, 4 versions, in case some people like cleaner map with less distractions.

This map was truly a challenge to complete, due to the amount of monster’s varieties as well as the cascading pieces of land.
Monsters_Map_SeaofClouds_v1 Monsters_Map_SeaofClouds_v2 Monsters_Map_SeaofClouds_v4Monsters_Map_SeaofClouds_v3After finishing all 6 maps, I will make a center post containing all maps in the same page. But for now, it has to be separated entries.

Monsters Location Maps: The Churning Mists

Finally got around to making The Churning Mists’ map.

3 Versions, again.

MonstersMap_ChurningMists_v1 MonstersMap_ChurningMists_v2 MonstersMap_ChurningMists_v3

The reason why I made this (despite the fact that there are already monsters maps on the internet that everyone else is using) is that I find things on the map faster with visual aid. Also, on my server, there are a lot of European players, so some of the monsters names are complete different from English names.

Moreover, some monsters drop crafting materials so there might be a competition for kills, so I feel that marking territory of spawn can be useful when monsters become heavily hunted.

Monsters_Map_CoerthasWesternHighlands_v4

Made Coerthas Western Highlands map the other day and a few friends were using it, so I made a Dravanian Forelands map yesterday. However, s friend commented that it was too messy and qas quite hard to read, so I made a few adjustments and made 3 versions of it.

(On this occasion I revised my Coerthas Western Highlands and increased font size. As shown above.)

Now, onto the 2nd map, The Dravanian Forelands.

Monsters_Map_DravanianForelands_v2

First one has approximate territories marked.

Monsters_Map_DravanianForelands_v3

Second one doesn’t mark monster’s territories. But I keep the pictures because I recognized mobs better when it’s visual. It took me a long time to scan the map for text when it was text only. ><;;

Monsters_Map_DravanianForelands_v4Version 3 has even bigger font, and is text only, by Dahlia’s suggestion.

Hope these will be useful for me and my friends for Clan Mark Bills. :D

Flag coordinates marker

Useful map function of FFXIV: <flag>

I’ve already talked about <pos> which will mark the map at your current position, but now I’m going to talk about how to mark a flag on the map without having to be physically there.

However, I only know how to do it by using keyboard and mouse, because I use keyboard and mouse. If I find out how to do it with a controller, I will add the information later.

– Additional information –

A friend, Kuji, looked it up for me and said:

PS controller it’s R1 on map to set a flag marker

So, R1 for PlayStation controller, it is.

Also,

Austia Silverwing of Midgardsormr says:

On ps3 you can hold L1 and click R3 for mouse. then L2 is left click, R2 is right click. also L1+select gets rid of hud, L1+start is screenshot.

– End of additional information –

First, you have to open the map where you want to mark a flag on. Then, you use your mouse to point at the spot, and hold CTRL button on your keyboard while using right-click with your mouse.

FFXIV_Map_Marker_001

When you mark your own map with a flag in this method, the chat input will automatically type <flag> for you, so that you can hit enter to add text before or after it, or just send the <flag> to your chat channel right away.

FFXIV_Map_Marker_002

When sent into the chat, the <flag> will show coordinates as the pic above. Anyone who sees this message will be able to click on it in the chatlog to mark their own map with this flag.

This flag will stay there until you mark other flag, click other coordinates, or log out.

FFXIV_Map_Marker_003

We can only have 1 flag at a time, so if you click on any other coordinates, the new one will replace previous one.

Although there can only be one <flag> marker for anyone, but you can mention 2 coordinates at the same time if you use a <pos> and a <flag>, like in the example below:

FFXIV_Map_Marker_004

The chat log will come up like the next screenshot below:

FFXIV_Map_Marker_005

If your friend click on the coordinates that you sent, in this situation they can see (and mark) 2 different spot, but only one at a time, because every coordinates flag will overwrite each other.

FFXIV_Map_Marker_006I guess that’s all to know about <flag>.

Coordinates in FFXIV

I saw a set of search keyword which a visitor used when stumbling on my weblog:

how do i find coordinates in ff14?

So today I’ll talk about this.

I used to talk about <pos> in my blog entry, Handy Coordinates Marker but today I’ll elaborate more about the coordinates on your map.

In FFXIV, when you open your map (default shortcut is keyboard button M) it will show up like this. You can also click inside your minimap (radar or compass) in order to call up this large map.

Coords1

Your current position/location is usually shown in the middle when you first open the map. It is marked with the tiny marker that looks like water drop. When you look closely, at the bottom of the map window, there is a set of numbers, in my example it says 11X Y10, which means you’re currently at coordinates X:11 Y:10 of that map.

Coords2

If you, however, point your mouse cursor elsewhere in the map, you can see the coordinates of the place you are pointing at on the top right corner of the map screen. In my example, I was pointing at X:9 Y:8. So, if you know a place, and you want to get the coordinates number of the place, just open that specific map and put the mouse pointer at the spot you want, and then look at the coords in the top right corner. (Update: You can also use CTRL+right mouse click to choose a specific spot on any map to mark a flag on it, then a text command <flag> will show up in your chat input line, letting you enter it for a clickable link on chatlog.)

Coords3

Then, back to the topic of <pos>, this is a very handy command/syntax. If you type in your chat, to any channel, like shown below, it will generate a clickable map coordinates for anyone who sees that chat line.

Coords4

Like this.

Coords5

Then, the reader can hover the mouse cursor on that automated position text. If you click on it, it will call up the map with a green flag marked in it.

Coords6 Coords7

So if I use <pos> to tell people where I am, when they click on the coords, they can easily find me, without having to hover their mouse everywhere until they eventually see the correct numbers.

Easy and handy. ^^

Handy coordinates marker

Useful map function of FFXIV: <pos>

Yesterday while gathering on my Botanist in the South Shroud East Shroud, I overheard this conversation where a player told people to please use <pos> when they ask for Raise. It will generate a map marker where people can click on the text in the chatlog to open a map, showing this cute little green flag to let them easily spot that coordinates without having to manually look for it by hovering the mouse over every inch of their map!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (That’s what I’ve been doing all week…..yeah and it is a big hassle which I am very unpleased of.)

POS_map

As an ambulance, I really appreciate this tips. It would save me a ton of headache whenever I feel like going for the rescue for these random dead bodies. I thanked the person (and some other players who helped explain why I couldn’t see the green flag and how to look for it – I was too far away so it wasn’t in the frame, and by zooming out I will spot it easily without having to scroll my map) and they said they want me to spread the words, as not many people know this (I never knew before, either!!!)

So yeah, I want all the dead people asking for raise to use this function to make help come easier and save us some headache in finding them, so here I am, spreading it. Please make use of this nice function.

Oh, by the way, I do not know how players on PS3 would execute this map marker when they see a coords, because I told my friend and he said no mouse, can’t click. (OUCH!) So, if anyone knows how to, please also spread that tips. Thanks!

And remember, if you’re asking for a help, it would be nicer if you shout your location clearly and make it easier for the helper to find you. It is a hassle, if not frustration, to have to manually find the coordinates when people don’t use <pos> format to specify location.
