Fishing is Fun

So I am back to fishing again. I regret going back to fishing in FFXIV. Why? Because I can’t stop fishing after I started fishing. I even forgot my dinner because I was too happy fishing. Damn. ><;;

I really love the new fishing system. It is less tedious and much more interesting. It yields quite low EXP, but if you manage to land a HQ fish, the amount of experience points you earn will make your jaws drop. I got, for example, 4000 EXP from landing a HQ Copperfish at Raincatcher Gully (as a fisher level 15). As for my high level fisher on Ragnarok, using the skill (ability) Mooch is a hell lot of fun. At Aleport (location is named Skull Valley, though), I landed a Wahoo (43.3 ilms) from using HQ Merlthor Goby as a bait, netting me 5253 EXP at level 43.

Also, I like the reeling animation now, especially when the fish is very big! It is entertaining to watch. (Yeah, I am simple and easily entertained, LOL.) And look, when we land a HQ fish, the character looks very happy. Alec laughs gleefully with open mouth when she gets HQ fish, as opposed to wide smile for NQ.

I am looking forward to roaming the continent for more fishing locations and new fish. ^_^

Not hearing Voice Acting

UPDATE! After posting this (which was automatically shared by WordPress system to my FaceBook and Tumblr) I got a comment from one of my friends: “you need to disable secondary device and set device output to standard speaker.” So, hopefully, this fixes the problem for some, if not all, of those who are having this issue.

Today my site stats reports that someone came here with the search keyword “ff14 npc ไม่มีเสียง” which can be translated into English “ff14 NPC has no voice.” Then I remember seeing someone asking in a Thai FFXIV Community on FaceBook that his game doesn’t play the Voice Acting sound at all. He hears everything else, except the voice acting part. He never heard the narrator describing the city-state in which he created his character, he never heard the Scions NPC talking, he never heard the Hydaelyn speaking. He hears BGM, effect, and his own character’s voices all right, but not the voice acting from NPC in the cutscene where it occurs.

I found this Voice Acting in FFXIV PC/PS3? thread on Reddit and some people stated that they are not hearing the voice acting either. One person said they are using Windows 8, and one other person said they’re using Windows 7. I am not sure if it is because they haven’t run into the quests that are voice acted, or if they have the same problem with the Thai person.

I also found this thread on the official forum, http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/73705-Not-hearing-voice-overs-in-cutscense Some people are having the same issue too. Maybe soon someone will be able to solve the mystery.

Anyone else having the same issue? What to do to fix the problem? I feel sorry for the guy that he cannot hear the voice acting.

มีใครเจอปัญหาแบบเดียวกันบ้างมั้ยคะ? ต้องทำยังไงถึงจะแก้ให้มันมีเสียงตามปรกติ? เห็นแล้วสงสารอ่ะ อดฟังเสียงพากย์

 

RMT Tell

It is the first day of official launch (not including early access) and I received a /tell from RMT (gil seller) already!?!? Just WTF!? I’m pretty pissed off at this. Just GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! //furious Go the fuck away from MY game, you bastard! RMT should burn in the seven hells.

Anyway, I mentioned it to a friend and he said “lol counter offer them.” So I replied like in the screenshot, reported the character to help desk, and could laugh at the matter a bit and got less mad. Now I’ll just ignore the bastard and enjoy my questing!!! It doesn’t worth it to hurt my own mental health fuming at such shit I can’t control.

 

Legacy & 1.0 CE Bonus

Today I just had the chance to pick up my Moogle Mails attached with 1.0 Collector’s Edition box and Legacy bonus. I don’t know which is from which, but I got a Helm of Light, a Baby Behemoth Minion, a Behemoth Barding for chocobo, and a Coeurl mount.

I can’t find where to use the barding, though. Probably need to get Grand Company’s chocobo first before I can ask the chocobo stable guy to change the barding.

FFXIV Inn Rooms

Inn room will be accessible for you once you finish main scenario quest of level 10. The leader of the Adventurer’s Guild will prompt you about it and the game will unlock it for you. Once you unlock the inn, you can use any of the 3 city-states’ inns.

FFXIV_Inn_Room_Uldah

In Ul’dah, my home nation, the Hourglass is where we rest. The windows here are my most favorite of all the inns. The interior is simple, yet has a luxurious hint in it. It also seems more spacey than other inns, just because of the layout.

The Roost at Gridania has tainted windows. Classy. I also love that this room is made with wood planks. And the green carpet is so soothing. Sometimes I really want to roll around on the floor in this room. This inn makes me feel close to the nature.

FFXIV_Inn_Room_LimsaLimsa room, the Mizzenmast Inn, has stern and sturdy design. It reminds me of the interior of a ship and I love it. Windows here let too much sunlight in, though. I will be highly offended if a room in real life is blindingly bright like this. Haha!

No FFXIV For me Today

Ah well, due to many real life stuff happening at once (e.g. sister and brother-in-law brought 2 nieces over for a visit, family dinner, family shopping) today I got almost no dose of FFXIV at all. Also, the servers have been wonky of late. Not only that the Duty Finder server was quite broken, rendering instance raid dungeons and most of special instances for class quests and main scenario quests inaccessible, but after several maintenance, the servers in general were still congested and unstable.

When I got home and my sister’s family left to head home, I came back to my room to check on the game and all servers were running. Bravo! I thought. But then I kept getting spat out from the server while the screen said “Now loading” after I selected my character. They said they are limiting the numbers of players to log in on each server. I guess I came too late to get in. XD

Instead of to keep trying and failing and getting upset in the process, I decided to get up from my desk and do something productive. Since my speakers went short circuit and died since 2 weeks ago, I was using my dad’s iPod’s speaker (portable, small, and crappy) temporarily just so my computer wouldn’t be completely mute. Dad asked if I wanted to use his old set of stereo speakers, but I said no thanks, as they are bulky and seemed like a hassle to connect. Now, it was time to go back on my words and take the offer. So I went to grab those speakers.

I left the game on while I was sitting on the floor to figure out which wire goes where. And…yep, sure enough, after a certain minutes of being idle, it automatically started playing End of An Era => A New Beginning movies.

WHY……… WHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!?

Through my crappy temporary speaker, I heard the chanting lyrics. On my screen, the heart-clenching scene went on. The song Answers, along with these movies are my weakness.

And yep, sure enough my room right then suddenly became filled with dying moogle noises / stuttering nannygoat / drowning dodo / sneezing chocobo / or whatever noises they were. I am not easy to offend and I don’t get mad at the crippled servers, but this, THIS, I cannot bear! SE are you picking a fight with me!?!?!!!! Ahhhh all the feels! I can’t. I just can’t.

Exploring maps as Crafter

Explore the maps as a class with lower level!

Friends!!!! If your main class is level 50 already, please remember to ride the chocobo (and run errands in towns) with your other class that hasn’t hit the cap yet. I was riding my legacy chocobo using my Pugilist (50) and soon realized I was wasting the free EXP I should have gotten. So I changed class to Armorer (40) and now raking in a lot of experience points.

1620 exp

I am not sure how the EXP gain is calculated, but as a level 40 Armorer, I am getting 1620 EXP whenever I discover a new location, and 16200 EXP for covering the whole area in one map. This is juicy, yummy freebies you shouldn’t miss! It’s a shame I didn’t get on earlier and discover this soon enough (and exclaim about it in-game) to let people know. Corn was going all FFFF#!$%^#@%^#$&! in the linkshell last night when I said my Armorer is eating free EXP along the way while I ride my chocobo, because he has already gone everywhere and opened the map far and wide due to his explorer’s nature. TAT

Anyway, I am now playing on Ragnarok on my old character, with new look! I really love this new color system in character creation. So now my Miqo’te has purple hair instead of blue. I had been wanting it purple since I started playing FFXIV, but had to settle with blue highlight instead because the creation didn’t allow too many colors!

And now I am still riding my chocobo everywhere in Thanalan to explore and get the free EXP, as I cannot continue on main scenario quest now. I am stuck at the level 5 quest (at the Sultantree) because Duty Finder server is having a lot of turbulence now and cannot be connected. (It seems all special instances, even the solo ones, are on the same server with anything using Duty Finder.)

NPC Humor

As I’ve mentioned in an entry about a quote from Admiral Merlwyb, this time during Beta Test Phase 4, while I was speeding through quests and spamming my right click through conversations, I have saved game text to read later. This time I copied most of the text from NPC dialog during quests in Ul’dah and made a file available on my iPad. Then, when I had to accompany my grandma to see her dentist, I brought the file with me and read it while waiting for her. The nurses would peek at me a few times, as there I sat, kept giggling every two or three minutes. I just couldn’t help. I had to laugh. Some of the quests were funny in the dialog itself. Some, however, were funny when I recall the NPC’s actions during the quest.

Some day, when I’m not lazy, I will put NPC dialog from quest in my blog and translate them to Thai so that some of my Thai friends who aren’t fluent enough to enjoy hidden humor in the quest (or simply too exhausted to try to understand it) can read them in Thai and have a good laugh too. ^^

Today, while I was rummaging through several of my screenshots folders for a dialog from a specific quest, namely “A Luxury Long Lost,” to no avail, I found this one that made me laugh in the beginning of Ul’dah’s story.

วันนี้ขณะที่เราพยายามพลิกแผ่นดินคุ้ยแฟ้มภาพในเกมจากในเครื่อง เพื่อหาภาพบทพูดจากเควสต์หนึ่งในอุลดาห์ ชื่อเควสต์ “A Luxury Long Lost” แต่ไม่บังเกิดผลใด ๆ เราก็ปะเข้ากับอีกเควสต์หนึ่งซึ่งทำให้เราหัวเราเมื่อนานมาแล้วตอนสมัยเพิ่งเริ่มเล่น Phase 3 ใหม่ ๆ

It was from Phase 3, when we were instructed to attune to the Aetheryte for the first time inside the city. NPC shows up to explain the use of Aetheryte, and then we would normally just listen to (or read) the tutorial, and then move along to the next quest. But this NPC in Ul’dah has more humor than that. She started her lecture by asking me to pay 100k gil as a fee for using the Aetheryte!!

มันเป็นตอนที่เราถูกใช้ให้ไปแตะเสาคริสตัล (อ่านไม่ออก แอธีไรท์ มั้ง) เป้นครั้งแรกในตัวเมือง จะมี NPC โผล่ออกมาบรรยายสรรพคุณของแอธีไรท์และวิธีใช้งาน ซึ่งปรกติเราก็คงจะฟังจนจบแล้วก็ไปทำเควสต์อื่นต่อ แต่คุณ NPC คนนี้เธอมีอารมณ์ขันมากเกินกว่านั้นจ้ะ เธอบอกว่าให้เราจ่ายเงินหนึ่งแสนกิลเพื่อเป็นค่าธรรมเนียมในการใช้บริการแอธีไรท์!!

Aetheryte Fee

She had a good laugh from it. Hahaha. And then proceeded to explain Aetheryte usage to the newcomer. Oh, and it will probably be twice as funny if your character is a Lalafell, as their /panic emote is dramatic and hilarious. Bah, I have to take that back, because when I look closely again just now, it is not a /panic motion, but probably something not in the emote list.
